From a business point of view, the IP Office would need to amend the national filing procedures to allow applicants:
- to make use of DAS for applications filed with the IP Office as a Depositing Office and,
- to provide individual DAS access code to the IP Office as an Accessing office to retrieve priority documents from WIPO DAS.
Initially, the IP Office would need to decide the scope of usage of WIPO DAS:
- Type of DAS Office:
- the IP Office would join WIPO DAS as Accessing Office only,
- the IP Office would join WIPO DAS as Depositing Office only,
- or the IP Office would join WIPO DAS as Accessing and Depositing Office.
- IP type coverage on WIPO DAS, to choose as many as the IP Office would want to share, from the currently supported IP types(in WIPO DAS).:
- Industrial Design,
- Patents,
- Utility models,
- Trademarks
A few introduction slides of the WIPO DAS system are available bellow:

The secure exchange of priority documents between the IP Office and WIPO can be done using the WIPO DAS Office portal to transfer and receive documents interactively without any IT investments or automation.
The most current documentation of the WIPO DAS Office and Applicant portals is available on our WIKI, under the following WIKI page: DAS User Guide
A remote demo session in English can be organized by DAS Support, to introduce the system to the IP Office's staff, who would be interested and use it for DAS operation.
The way forward would be as follows:
- the IP Office decides on the scope of operation (e.g. accessing office and patent priority documents only, accessing and depositing office for patents and industrial designs priority documents, etc.).
- WIPO will require examples of published priority documents of each type of IP rights for testing purpose and the respective document number formats.
- The IP Office will have to confirm whether you it is considering the WIPO DAS implementation using the secure web portal or via the new REST API.
- WIPO will arrange testing with the IP Office to make sure that the exchange of priority documents is operational.
- In case of using the secure web portal, the IP Office's staff, would need to create individual test WIPO online accounts using this URL http://www5.wipo.int/wipoaccounts (more info on d.1.2.- Creating a WIPO account for testing and training).
- Once their accounts are created, please send the information of the created accounts (user, email address, etc.) to das.support@wipo.int.
- To use and test the new REST API to automate the document exchange process, please follow the instructions as documented in the WIPO DAS wiki (https://www3.wipo.int/confluence/display/dascg/a.-+New+DAS+exchange+API) to create your private and public key pair and share the public key to das.support@wipo.int.
- Your Office would need to consider a few technical details as mentioned in the sample notification letter:
- After that, WIPO would expect to receive a notification letter from your Office at least 8 weeks prior to the commencement of operation
