I. GENERAL OVERVIEW OF RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN TRADEMARK INFORMATION ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT BY THE OFFICE

Information on the following topics is desired:

In 2024, the number of trademark applications submitted to the Intellectual Property Office has increased. 3636 applications were submitted for registration through the national procedure, which is about 10% more than the previous year. 2965 of the applications were submitted by national applicants. A preliminary examination was carried out on 3615 trademark applications, 1434 trademarks were registered. In 2024, 2499 trademark certificates were prepared and handed over to the right holders. The Republic of Armenia received 2981 notifications on international trademark registration under the international procedure (Madrid system). With international notifications, 2033 decisions were made on providing legal protection to the trademark. In 2024, the number of applications for international registration from the Republic of Armenia increased by 63% compared to the previous year: 62 applications.

The top four trademarks and services filed in 2024 according to the International Classification of Goods and Services (Nice) classes are as follows:

With 1058 applications, trademarks filed for registration for services in Class 35 of the Nice Classification (advertising, business management, organization, administration, office services) are in the leading position,

In the 2nd place, with 600 applications, are trademarks filed for services in Class 43 of the Nice Classification (services providing food and beverages, temporary accommodation),

In the 3rd place with 500 applications are trademarks filed for registration for goods in Class 30 of the Nice Classification (coffee, tea, cocoa and their substitutes, rice, pasta and noodles (arishta), tapioca and sago, flour and cereals, bread, pastry and confectionery, chocolate, ice cream, sorbets and other edible ices, sugar, honey, yeasts, baking powders, salt, spices, seasonings, preserved herbs, vinegar, sauces and other condiments, ice (frozen water)),

In 4th place, with 482 applications, are trademarks filed for registration for services in Class 41 of the Nice Classification (education, provision of the educational process, entertainment, organization of sports and cultural events).

The number of applications submitted electronically also increased during the reporting period: out of 3636 applications, 1848 applications were submitted electronically, which constitutes 50.8% of the number of applications submitted.
