III. SOURCES OF PATENT INFORMATION PROVIDED BY THE OFFICE

Information on the following topics is desired:

Since April 2005, INPI has published official notices and selected bibliographic data related to Brazilian patent applications and granted patents in the Revista da Propriedade Industrial (RPI), its official weekly electronic gazette. The RPI is available to the public in both PDF and TXT formats at: http://revistas.inpi.gov.br/rpi/
All editions are archived and accessible through INPI’s public digital library.

Bibliographic data and legal status information for Brazilian patent applications are available through the INPI website and internal systems. The main public search platform is: INPI Patent Search Portal (Busca de Patentes)
This platform allows searches by application number, applicant name, IPC, and keywords in titles and abstracts (available in Portuguese only).

Patent documents follow WIPO standards and include a front page containing key bibliographic information. Open patent data, including datasets in machine-readable formats, are made available through the Open Data Portal: INPI Open Data – Patents

INPI patent examiners have access to various national and international patent and non-patent literature databases to support prior art searches, including:

These tools, combined with internal systems, support examination procedures and ensure comprehensive access to patent information.

IV. ICT SUPPORT TO SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES RELATED TO PATENT INFORMATION CARRIED OUT BY THE OFFICE

Information on the following topics is desired:

Overview

Since 2022, the Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) started several initiatives digital transformation of services and products in Patent area. Key development includes:

Specific software tools supporting business procedures within the Office: general description, characteristics, advantages, possible improvements

Systems accessible to the external users

The petitioning system is an online form designed for patent-related services. The tool is integrated with the GRU/PAG, SINPI, and SisBioList systems.

It is the system responsible for issuing the Federal Payment Guide (GRU). Through the PAG system, users can access information about generated and paid GRUs, consult client and attorney data, perform bank reconciliation, and automatically register the receipt and internal processing of documents.

The RPI (Industrial Property Gazette) is the central system for publishing the industrial property journal editions, available on the INPI portal. Through this portal, users can track the official communications (despachos) issued for patent applications. The information can be accessed in full (PDF) or in a simplified format (TXT or XML).

It is the intellectual property search system, which allows users to monitor the progress of proceedings after logging in with a username and password. It also enables anonymous (unauthenticated) users to perform searches.

Systems accessible to internal users

1.Classification is allotting one or more classification symbols (e.g., IPC symbols) to a patent application, either before or during search and examination, which symbols are then published with the patent application.

2. Preclassification is allotting an initial broad classification symbol (e.g., IPC class or subclass, or administrative unit) to a patent application, using human or automated means for internal administrative purposes (e.g., routing an application to the appropriate examiner).  Usually preclassification is applied by the administration of an office.

3. Reclassification is the reconsideration and usually the replacement of one or more previously allotted classification symbols to a patent document, following a revision and the entry into force of a new version of the Classification system (e.g., the IPC).  The new symbols are available on patent databases.
