I. GENERAL OVERVIEW OF RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN PATENT INFORMATION ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT BY THE OFFICE

Information on the following topics is desired:

CNIPA has always adhered to a user-centered approach, with the goal of continuously improving examination quality and efficiency, and has actively explored the application of technologies such as large models and AI agents in the field of patent examination, achieving positive progress in addressing key and difficult operational issues. In July 2025, we deployed multiple large models within our systems and completed the construction of an AI Capability Enhancement Center, providing examiners with AI tools for three core competencies:

- For search capability, we specifically trained a search large model. For invention and utility model patent applications, by deeply integrating the large language model with the semantic search engine, the search system now combines traditional "feature recognition" with AI's "invention understanding" capability, significantly enhancing intelligent retrieval performance.

- For technical comprehension capability, we provide an AI Academic Assistant service. Examiners can conduct search and real-time Q&A based on academic journals through natural language dialogue, enabling them to quickly understand technical backgrounds, grasp technological development trends, and improve the relevance of their learning.

- For legal application capability, we developed an AI Legal Assistant that integrates data resources such as laws and regulations, typical cases, and training courses to build a specialized knowledge base. Leveraging the intelligent Q&A and logical reasoning capabilities of large models, it enables legal provision retrieval, case analysis, and training Q&A functions, providing examiners with round-the-clock "mentor" services and offering legal support for making sound examination conclusions.

In 2026, CNIPA's new projects: Large-model applications, system password security upgrades, implementation of WIPO Standard ST.92, equipment updates, and other related matters.

1.Classification is allotting one or more classification symbols (e.g., IPC symbols) to a patent application, either before or during search and examination, which symbols are then published with the patent application.

2. Preclassification is allotting an initial broad classification symbol (e.g., IPC class or subclass, or administrative unit) to a patent application, using human or automated means for internal administrative purposes (e.g., routing an application to the appropriate examiner).  Usually preclassification is applied by the administration of an office.

3. Reclassification is the reconsideration and usually the replacement of one or more previously allotted classification symbols to a patent document, following a revision and the entry into force of a new version of the Classification system (e.g., the IPC).  The new symbols are available on patent databases.
