The expression "industrial designs" covers industrial designs and models. Offices which issue design patents should report their design patent information activities in this series of Annual Technical Reports.
I. Evolution of registration activities
Changes experienced in terms of application filings and grants (registrations) with respect to the previous year
The average duration of the examination of applications on industrial designs from filing date to the date of taking decisions on refusal or granting of protection of the industrial designs in 2011 was 2 months (the duration of the examination of applications on trademarks in 2011 was the same as in 2010).
Trends or areas experiencing rapid changes with respect to the previous year
Compared with 2010 the total number of applications on industrial design received has increased by national procedure (17 in 2010 and 26 applications in 2011 from national applicants) whereas the number of applications received from foreign applicants is decreased by national procedure.

II. Matters concerning the generation, reproduction, and distribution of industrial design documents and of secondary sources of industrial design information, i.e., official gazettes
In 2011 12 issues of the Official Bulletin “Industrial Property” were published in the form of CD-ROM: № 1 - № 12. Bulletins were published in 2 languages in Armenian and in Russian, which included official information on 24 industrial designs.
Preparation and publication of description of 24 industrial designs have been carried out for their provision to the certificate owners.
Technical and Statistic reports on industrial designs for 2010 have been prepared and presented to the World Intellectual Property Organization.
III. Matters concerning classifying, reclassifying and indexing of industrial design information according to the classification systems applied
Classification and reclassification activities; Classification system used, e.g., International Classification for Industrial Designs (Locarno Classification), other classification (please indicate whether industrial designs are classified by your Office and, if so, which classification is used)
International classification for Industrial Designs ICID (Locarno Agreement) under 9-th edition is used for registration of industrial designs.
Bibliographic data and processing
With the help of electronic base the search on Industrial Designs is practically carried out by all bibliographic data.
IV. Search file establishment and upkeep
The Agency continued works on reinforcement of funds of Armenian Scientific Technical Information Centre. Information received from foreign patent offices has been transferred to the Centre.
V. Activities in the field of computerized search systems for industrial designs
The Agency uses the subversion of “Industrial designs” databases. The subversion database designed for examination and proceedings provides:
- Accumulation of bibliographic data in three languages (Armenian, Russian, English)
- Accumulation and control of fees
- Automation of record keeping
- Outlet of statistical data
- Publication of bibliographic data
- Search of information.
In the reporting period automation and technical re-equipment of the Agency has been continued. The Agency has been re-equipped with 40 computers of type Intel(R) Core i7, servers, computer supplementary devices and equipments. Shortcomings and omissions in the information system of the Agency revealed in the course of its exploitation have been eliminated. With the aim of introduction of problems occurred in the result of development changes and updates have been made in the information system of the Agency.
Windows XP, Windows Vista systems and Microsoft Office have been installed, service of operation system, installation of software, diagnostics of infected computers and programs have been carried out, and operation failures have been removed.
The hyperlinks “Statistical Data”, “Laws”, “International Agreements”, “Legal Norms”, “Blanks”, “Official Publications” of the web site have been updated. A new hyperlink “Geographical Indications, Designations of Origin and Guaranteed Traditional Product” was created under the section of “Official Publications”.
VI. Administration of industrial design information products and services available to the public (relating to facilities, e.g., for lodging applications, registering designs, assisting clients with search procedures, obtaining official publications and registry extracts)
The information on industrial design, which is published in Official Bulletins, is given on the following site http://www.aipa.am of the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Armenia.
VII. Matters concerning mutual exchange of industrial design documentation and information
The Official Bulletins containing notifications on industrial design subject matters are sent free of charge to the Armenian Research Institute of Scientific and Technical Information, Main Library of the National Academy of Sciences, the libraries of the Armenian State University, the State Engineering University of the Republic of Armenia, the Armenian Academy of Agriculture, the State Public Library and to the Book Chamber of Armenia. Official Bulletins have also been sent to the regional centers of the Republic of Armenia free of charge.
According to the preliminary arrangements on patent information exchange, 21 copies of the Official Bulletin, where information on industrial design had been published, were sent to the Patent offices of foreign countries, as well as to WIPO, EPO and EAPO.
