I. Evolution of registration activities
Changes experienced in terms of application filings and registrations with respect to the previous year
The procedures of filing application, examination and registration of trademarks have not changed in 2012.
Trends or areas experiencing rapid changes with respect to the previous year
In 2012 the total of the filed applications for registration on trademarks has made 5305, that is more on 5,8 % in comparison with last year. The increase has occurred at the expense of the increased activity of foreign applicants: on national procedure by foreign applicants filed 2007 applications that on 16,7 % more than last year; on the international procedure 2678 applications have filed that above an indicator of 2011 on 1,4 %. By national procedure were filed 2007 applications that made 76,4 % of the filed applications on national procedure. In a share of the foreign applicants, filled applications on national procedure makes 23,6 %.
1353 trademarks are registered in 2012, that is less on 14,5 % than last year. From total number of the registered trademarks, registration of national applicants have made 61,3 % and foreign applicants - 38,7 %. The legal protection is given to 1933 international trademarks.

II. Matters concerning the generation, reproduction, and distribution of secondary sources of trademark information, i.e., trademark gazettes
Publishing, printing, copying techniques
The Agency has published the following official publications on trademarks in 2012:
• The official bulletin «Rasmiy Akhborotnoma» - 12 issues
• The collection of annual indexes to the official bulletin «Rasmiy Akhborotnoma» (section of the index on trademarks) on the electronic carrier.
Data on the registered trademarks are published in section "Trademarks" of the official bulletin «Rasmiy Akhborotnoma», which is published on CD-ROM. Data on trademarks includes bibliographic data and image. Data on 1327 trademarks are published in official bulletins in 2012.
Main types of announcements of the Office in the field of trademark information
The most important announcements, concerning activity of the office on trademarks are published in section "Official news" of the bulletin «Rasmiy Akhborotnoma» and also available on the website of the office (www.ima.uz).
Mass storage media and microforms used
Data on national trademarks are stored in existing bibliographic database "Trademarks" of Agency and in electronic storehouses.
Word processing and office automation
During processing applications all the documents, concerning trademarks, are scanned and saved in facsimile form in format TIFF.
Collecting chapters of the official bulletin on trademarks is carried out automatically on the workplace of the employee of Publication Division. By specialized inquiry the bibliographic data from database (SUBD MS SQL Server 2000) and texts of documents (abstracts) are selected and sorted from electronic storehouse. The subsequent operations (page makeup, duplicating) are made by means of programs Word and Adobe Acrobat 7.0.
Techniques used for the generation of trademark information (printing, recording, photocomposing, etc.)
Images of trademarks are saved in format JPG by means of program Adobe PhotoShop 7.0 Pro. Bibliographic data are saved and processed in format XML and in parallel in DB SQL Server.

III. Matters concerning classifying, reclassifying and indexing of trademark information
Classification and reclassification activities; Classification systems used, e.g., International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks (Nice Classification), International Classification of the Figurative Elements of Marks (Vienna Classification), other classification (please indicate whether goods and services for the registration of marks and whether the figurative elements of marks are classified by your Office and, if so, which classification(s) is (are) used)
Goods and services are classified according to the International classification of goods and services (Nice Classification, 10th edition). The Figurative elements of trade marks are classified according to the International Classification of the Figurative Elements of Marks (Vienna Classification).
Use of electronic classification systems to check the classification symbols furnished by an applicant and which are contained in the lists of goods and/or services
Examiners of the Agency use the electronic version of ICGS of 10th edition for updating the classification headings specified by applicants
Obligation for applicants to use pre-defined terms of the classification applied
An applicant should put down classification indexes in application documents on trademarks according to ICGS (Nice Classification) operating edition.
Bibliographic data and processing
Bibliographic data are saved in the form of dynamic XML-documents and in the internal database constructed on the basis of SUBD MS SQL Server 2000. Primary filling of base is made by special group of input. Bibliographic data are supported and updated during life of the application by all departments involved in process. Changes in base will be authorized. Interfaces of access to base are constructed on the basis of Intranet-technologies.
IV. Trademark manual search file establishment and upkeep
Searching trademarks at traditional carriers is not carried out by examiners of the Agency; it is carried out only by other users on the basis of collections of the State Fund of the Patent Documentation in reading rooms.
There is conducted the bibliographic database and electronic file (text) storage on the national documents for internal use.
V. Activities in the field of computerized trademark search systems
In-house systems (online/offline)
With a view of increase of efficiency of search and processing of patents in Agency the subsystem of automation of patent search and preparation for the publication of patent documents (PIPS) functions.
PIPS - patent-search information system (conducting bibliographic bases, patent search, reports: registers, statistics, decisions of examinations).
The system of automation of search and preparation of documents of Agency has been designed on the basis of technologies Intranet with wide use of language means of the objective structured data presentation - universal language of the description of data XML/XSL and control system of databases of corporate level MS SQL Server.
External databases
Examiners access through the Internet to database of WIPO international trademarks - International Trademark Information Database (ROMARIN) is provided. Search is carried out by examiners of the office through using indexes of Nice classification, and Vienna classification of graphic elements of signs. Indexes of the Vienna classification are regularly bringing in a database "Trademarks".
Administrative management systems (e.g., register, legal status, statistics and administrative support)
The SATOZ has the full-function system of administration, which provides an authorization, access to the information, safety, and management of the rights of users, groups and options of system.
Equipment used (hardware, including the types of terminal and network used, and software), carriers used
The active part of technical maintenance of the integrated automated system (the computer, network and peripheral equipment) includes in the structure:
• Workstations of series HP dx2300, dx2400, Pro M3120 MT;
• Server stations of series HP Pro Liant DL 380, HP Pro Liant ML 370;
• Network printers HP LaserJet of series P2015, P1006, P4515x, 4100DTN, Samsung ML-2165, Canon MF-4410, Canon 3010B, Canon LBP 2900, Canon iR 2318;
• Flatbed scanners HP ScanJet 5100C and HP ScanJet 5400C, 4010C, Fujitsu;
• The Switching equipment (switchboards HP, routers 3COM, access servers), sources of no-break power from manufacturers MGE of series Pulsar M3000, M2200 and AVT 15 kWt.
The architectural decision of corporate network of the Agency completely is based on family of operating systems MS Windows. Operating systems MS Windows Advanced Server 2000/2003 support domain structure of network. As a base workstation system MS Windows XP Professional (SP3)/Windows 7, providing multilanguage support is chosen.
For the purpose of protection of local network against interventions from a network the Internet the local computer network of the organization is protected network by screen MS ISA (Internet Security and Acceleration) is used a kind of proxy-server and also the local network is protected by an antivirus - Kaspersky Antivirus Workstation/Server Edition for prevention infection of computers from harmful software.
With a view of improvement of quality of patent office-work in Agency the licensed software is used.
For editing and recognition of documents it is used software ABBYY Fine Reader 7.0, Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Pro and processing of images Photoshop CS2, CorelDRAW 12. For work with various types of documents: texts, spreadsheets, databases, etc. use office package of appendices MS Office 2007 Pro. For automation of translation process within the limits of a local network the network version of translation program PROMT NET Pro 7.0 and the independent version of electronic dictionary ABBYY Lingvo 10 is used.
VI. Administration of trademark information products and services available to the public (relating to facilities, e.g., for lodging applications, registering trademarks, assisting clients with search procedures, obtaining official publications and registry extracts)
Planning, administration, automation, security
The State Patent Documentation Fund of Agency collects the information on trademarks. This Documentation Fund is structural division of Agency and also has practically unique full collection of the patent documentation in territory of Uzbekistan. On the basis of State Patent Documentation Fund of Agency is carried out the patent- information services for office experts and public.
Collection management, preservation
The collection of Fund includes patent bulletins with data on trademarks of 25 countries (оn 15 countries - the retrospective information whereas since the certain moment official bulletins of these countries are exposed on sites of patent offices) and WIPO. Acquisition is carried out on the basis of international exchange, in order of a subscription and acquisition by own editions. The collection on a paper is stored on metal racks and in wall cupboard, collection on CD/DVD-ROM disks are stored in stores in wall cases.
Information services available to the public (including computerized services and search files contained in libraries remote from your Office and trademark information posted by your Office on the World Wide Web)
The information services which are carried out by order of consumers, which includes carrying out of the automated search on CD/DVD-ROM; classification on international classification of trademark; searching in the database of the office, consultation on complication the applications for trademark (filling application for international registration); copying, selection and issue of documents by inquiries of users, and etc. About 400 patent-information services were done on trademarks in 2012.
Issue of patent documents on traditional carriers is carried out directly in reading rooms, and also in electronic fund, which presents the patent documentation and the information on trademarks on optical disks.

VII. Matters concerning mutual exchange of trademark documentation and information
International or regional cooperation in the exchange of trademark information, e.g., in the form of official gazettes
On the basis of the bilateral and international exchange, the Agency send the Official bulletin «Rasmiy Akhborotnoma» with data on the registered trademarks to 28 countries and international and regional organizations as WIPO, EPO, and EAPO.
Exchange of machine-readable information
Agency has published the official bulletin on CD-ROM disks. In 2012 on the basis of bilateral exchange AGENCY has received official bulletins with data on trademarks from offices of 10 countries and WIPO, from its official bulletins on CD-ROM and DVD-ROM disks from 9 countries and WIPO.

Promotional activities (seminars, exhibitions, visits, advertising, etc.)
Questions on a legal protection of trademarks are included in the program of the «Center on retraining and advanced training of qualification of the staff of AIP in sphere of Intellectual property.
Besides, these questions are component of lectures, educational seminars, organized by Agency, in particular, in republic educational institutions; in 2012 lectures and practical trainings have visited over 600 listeners.
Activities in the field of trade marks is part of the seminars, which organized by the Agency, in particular, is lead a regional seminar in Karshi and in the several universities of Tashkent, in 2012. Information on necessity legal protection of trade marks is published in mass media.
