The expression "industrial designs" covers industrial designs and models. Offices which issue design patents should report their design patent information activities in this series of Annual Technical Reports.
I. Evolution of registration activities
Changes experienced in terms of application filings and grants (registrations) with respect to the previous year
The Law of Republic Uzbekistan « On modification and additions in the Law of Republic Uzbekistan On the inventions, useful models and industrial samples »№ ZRU-164 dated July 30, 2008 has come into force on July 31, 2008. The given law covers the positions providing system of postponed examination application for granting patent for the invention, reinstatement of patent effect for objects of industrial property and reduction terms of granting patents from three months till 10 days. In connection with acceptance of the given law the work has fulfilled on modification and additions in the normative documents of obligatory character regulating actions of applicants on drawing up and filing applications and experts works. “Rules of compilation, filing and consideration of the application for grant the patent of the Republic of Uzbekistan for industrial design” and “Rules of compilation, filing and consideration of the application for grant the patent of the Republic of Uzbekistan for invention” are prepared and registered with established order.
Trends or areas experiencing rapid changes with respect to the previous year
The number of the filed applications for granting of patents on industrial designs in 2008 has made 83 applications that are more 27, 7 % compare with the last year. The share of filed applications by national applicants has made 55, 4%. The number of filed application by foreign applicants has increased on 85, 0%, the share of total applications has increased from 30, 8 % in 2007 to 44, 6 % in 2008. The most number of applications are filed on following classes of the International Classification of Industrial Designs (ICID): 9th class (container, packing and containers) - 23 applications, 12th class (means of transport) - 14 applications, 11th class (subject of jewelers) - 8 applications and 13th class (equipment for giving, distributing and transformation energy) - 8 applications; the specified classes have made 63, 9 % from total of the filed applications. The number of the filed applications has made 67, which is made 65, 7 % of registered industrial designs by national applicants and 34, 3 % - foreign applicants.

II. Matters concerning the generation, reproduction, and distribution of industrial design documents and of secondary sources of industrial design information, i.e., official gazettes
Publishing, including printing, copying techniques and electronic printing
In 2008 official publications of the office are included the following editions:
• official bulletin «Rasmiy Ahborotnoma» - 12 issues (on CD-ROM);
• publication sheets to patents for industrial designs - 67 publication sheets (on a paper);
• collection of annual indexes to the official bulletin «Rasmiy Ahborotnoma» (section of the index on industrial designs) on the electronic carrier.
Data on the registered industrial designs are published in section «Industrial designs» of the official bulletin «Rasmiy Ahborotnoma», which is issued from 2004 on CD-ROM. Data on industrial designs includes bibliographic data and image. Data on 66 industrial designs are published in official bulletins in 2008.
Main types of announcements of the Office in the field of industrial design information
The most important announcements, concerning activity of the office on industrial designs are available in section "Communiques" of the bulletin «Rasmiy Ahborotnoma» and on the website of the office (www.patent.uz).
Mass storage media and microforms used
The SPO has a full collection of patent documents of Uzbekistan on industrial designs on a paper. Patent documents are stored also in bibliographic databases and in electronic storehouses.
Databases and office automation
During processing applications all the documents, concerning trademarks, are scanned and kept in facsimile form in format TIFF.
Gathering chapters of the official bulletin on trademarks is carried out automatically on the workplace of the employee of publication division. By specialized inquiry the bibliographic data from database (SUBD MS SQL Server 2000) and texts of documents (abstracts) are selected and sorted from electronic storehous. The subsequent operations (page makeup, duplicating) are made by means of programs Adobe PageMaker, Word and Adobe Acrobat.

III. Matters concerning classifying, reclassifying and indexing of industrial design information according to the classification systems applied
Classification and reclassification activities; Classification system used, e.g., International Classification for Industrial Designs (Locarno Classification), other classification (please indicate whether industrial designs are classified by your Office and, if so, which classification is used)
Applications for industrial designs are classified according to 9th edition of the International Classification of Industrial Designs (Locarno Agreement). Other classification systems are not applied.
Bibliographic data and processing
Bibliographic data are kept in the form of dynamic XML-documents and in the internal database constructed on the basis of SUBD MS SQL Server 2000. Primary filling of base is made by special group of input. Bibliographic data are supported and updated during life of the application by all departments involved in process. Changes in base will be authorized. Interfaces of access to base are constructed on the basis of Intranet-technologies.
IV. Search file establishment and upkeep
File building
The search file on a paper and optical disks is formed on the basis of collection of the State Fund of the Patent Documentation and includes materials on the industrial designs, 24 countries containing in foreign official bulletins, WIPO and the incorporated cumulative editions on the industrial designs, prepared by INIC Rospatent; it is placed by a geographical principle. The retrospective part is presented by photograph collection of industrial designs.
Under national patent documents are conducted the bibliographic database and electronic file (text) storehouses for internal use.
Updating
Search files on a paper and a part on CD/DVD-ROM are updated monthly, some CDs/DVD-ROM are updated annually.
Bibliographic data and files of documents in electronic storehouse on national documents can replenish and/or be corrected in process of the reference.
Storage, including mass storage media
Conditions of storage of fund depend mostly on kinds of data carriers: patent documents on a paper are stored in wall cases, photograph collection on microfilms - in boxes, on CD-ROM and DVD-ROM - in stores in wall cases.
Bases of bibliographic, office work data and file storehouse are stored on specialized a file-server on which with a view of safety reserve copying on an additional server is carried out
Documentation from other offices maintained and/or considered part of the available search file
In 2008 the State Fund of the Patent Documentation has replenished with the patent-information publications containing data on industrial designs of 22 countries of the world and WIPO.
V. Activities in the field of computerized search systems for industrial designs
In-house systems (online/offline)
Implementation of internal portal of the SPO is stopped which realizes functions of the patent -information search system, the regulated statistics and office-work SATOZ («Through automated technology of processing of applications»), because of the revealed lacks during operation.
External databases
The followings used by examiners widely on the Internet: Google, Rambler, Yahoo, and Яndex.
Administrative management systems (e.g., register, legal status, statistics and administrative support)
The full-function system of administration is in SATOZ, providing authorization, access to the information, safety, and management of the rights of users, groups and options of system.
Equipment used (hardware, including the types of terminal and network used, and software), data carriers used
The equipment: Server group, network infrastructure (cable communications, routers), workstations (from P-II, up to P-IV), periphery (printers, scanners, photocopy).
Operational system: Windows Server 2003 Mode (servers SQL Server 2000/2003, Excange 2003, ISA, IIS, server of reserve copying/restoration of the information), Vista and Windows 2000/XP (workstations).
The applied software: SATOZ/Landocs, external site www.patent.uz, internal site (PIPS), System of testing of knowledge.
Applied systems: "Norm" program system, “1C Account” account system, Promt 10 machine translation system, Lingvo 10 system of dictionaries, ORT-system Fine Reader, Photoshop CS2, office system MS Office (professional), Adobe Reader 7.0.
VI. Administration of industrial design information products and services available to the public (relating to facilities, e.g., for lodging applications, registering designs, assisting clients with search procedures, obtaining official publications and registry extracts)
Planning, administration, automation, security
The State Patent Documentation Fund of SPO gathered information on industrial designs, which is structural division of SPO and also practically unique full collection of the patent documentation in territory of Uzbekistan. On the basis of State Patent Documentation Fund of SPO is carried out patent- information services for office experts and public.
Collection management, preservation
The collection of Fund includes patent bulletins with data on industrial designs of 25 countries and WIPO. Acquisition is carried out on the basis of international exchange, in order of a subscription and acquisition by own editions. The collection on a paper is stored on metal racks and in wall cupboard, collection on CD/DVD-ROM disks are stored in stores in wall cases.

The information services which are carried out under orders of consumers, include: carrying out of the automated search on CD/DVD-ROM; classification on international classification of industrial designs; search in the database of the office, consultation on drawing up and registration of applications for registration (including international) trademark; copying, selection and issue of documents by inquiries of users, and etc.

VII. Matters concerning mutual exchange of industrial design documentation and information
International or regional cooperation in the exchange of industrial design information, e.g., in the form of official gazettes
Official bulletin of SPO «Rasmiy Ahborotnoma» with data on the registered trademarks is dispatched to patent offices of 27 countries in the basis of bilateral exchange and international and regional organizations as WIPO, EPO, and EAPO.
Exchange of machine-readable information, e.g., data contained on CD-ROM or magnetic tape
Official bulletin of the SPO «Rasmiy Ahborotnoma» with data on the registered industrial designs on CD-ROM disks by way of bilateral exchange is sent in patent offices of 27 countries, EPO, WIPO and EAPO. On bilateral exchange in 2008 SPO has received official bulletins with data on industrial designs from offices of 22 countries and WIPO (from them on 10 on CD-ROM disks) and incorporated edition INIC of Rospatent "Industrial designs of foreign countries".

Promotional activities (seminars, exhibitions, visits, advertising, etc.)
Activity of SPO in the field of trademarks is the part of office organizing seminars, in particular the regional seminars « Legal Protection of IP Objects and its role in development region’s economy» were organized in 2008 in the following cities of Uzbekistan: Urgench, Termez, Karshi, Samarkand, Bukhara, Navoiy, Namangan, Andijan, Fergana, Nukus, Gulistan, Jizak. Representatives of the small and medium-sized enterprises, the research organizations, universities are participants of seminars. The total of participants of seminars has made from above 900 persons.
Information on necessity legal protection of trade marks is published in mass media.
Training courses for national and foreign participants
SPO experts give a lecture on industrial design for students of Higher Educational Institutions.
