I. Evolution of registration activities
Changes experienced in terms of application filings and registrations with respect to the previous year
- In the year of 2007,Department of Intellectual Property ( Ministry of Commerce ) DIP received 33,555 applications for the registration of Trademark in Thailand, With these number
- 20,140 was Thai applications
- 13,415 was Foreigner applications
- which have the details as below.
Trademark : 27,356 applications
Service mark : 6,162 applications
Certification mark : 20 applications
Association mark : 17 applications
- With these applications 24,640 was registered.
- The registered trademarks was increasing 2.13% comparing with the year 2006.
Trends or areas experiencing rapid changes with respect to the previous year
There was no much change in the number of applications comparing with the year 2006.
But we can notice that even the number of the application stay rather flat but the number of registered was slightly drop down.

II. Matters concerning the generation, reproduction, and distribution of secondary sources of trademark information, i.e., trademark gazettes
Publishing, printing, copying techniques
DIP Trademark office has only published registration for the Registration Advertising as in the procedure for applying for Trademark that the applications examined have to be advertised to the public for 90 days..
We published 3,990 issues and 13,224 CD ROM for the Gazette publication.
Main types of announcements of the Office in the field of trademark information
Paper Magazine Publication and CD ROM.
Mass storage media and microforms used
All new application both from paper filling and on line application will be first input to our Database system. Then print into paper form and file before sending to the examiners.
The examiners access Center Search System from their own terminal in DIP trademark office.
After the examination finish all the application will be on advertise for 90 days. Without any opposition each application will be registered.
Word processing and office automation

Techniques used for the generation of trademark information (printing, recording, photocomposing, etc.)
As above,the marks in application forms will be scanned by ORACLE Form software system.

III. Matters concerning classifying, reclassifying and indexing of trademark information
Classification and reclassification activities; Classification systems used, e.g., International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks (Nice Classification), International Classification of the Figurative Elements of Marks (Vienna Classification), other classification (please indicate whether goods and services for the registration of marks and whether the figurative elements of marks are classified by your Office and, if so, which classification(s) is (are) used)
1. Nice International Classification for claasification in examination procedure.
DIP Trademark office has classified the applicant trademark by using the NICE Classification method.
2. Vienna Classification for Marks.
DIP Trademark office has classified the marks within trademark applications by using the Vienna Classification method.
Use of electronic classification systems to check the classification symbols furnished by an applicant and which are contained in the lists of goods and/or services
We check with our Center Search System database by the pronunciation of Trademarks, written alphabet names and logos.
Obligation for applicants to use pre-defined terms of the classification applied
All applicants must defined the classifications of Trademark within the application forms.
Bibliographic data and processing
DIP Thailand has used ORACLE database system for internal seach system. The applicants can search in advance by using computer installed this data or access online by register as the member of our service.
IV. Trademark manual search file establishment and upkeep
All searches still perform by examiners by using our Center Search data base system.
File Building
All new application both from paper filling and on line application will be first input to our Database system. Then print into paper form and file before sending to the examiners.
The examiners access Center Search System from their own terminal in DIP trademark office.
After the examination finish all the application will be on gazettes advertising for 90 days. Without any opposition each application will be registered.
Updating
Every changes and update information for each applicantion will be input to the center search system.
Storage, including mass storage media
Application that has already input will be storage in the center search system control high security in DIP building and after the registration all paper file will be storage in another room in DIP building to keep as the evidence.

As above DIP Thailand has supported by only one cemter search data base system which has limited access only from DIP computer terminal and DIP online service via DIP website.

Non. Only DIP Center Search Database which is provided in DIP building and online via DIP website only.

Promotional activities (seminars, exhibitions, visits, advertising, etc.)
- Thailand IP Fair: Held to promote the use of intellectual property as to enhance trade competition capacity and create business negotiation channels in Thailand IP market.
This fair will be held around September every year .
- IP Distance Learning : In cooperation with WIPO we are preparing the curriculum fro teaching intellectual property via the internet in the Thai Language based upon well-known DL-100 curruculun opereated by WIPO.
- Seminar on “ How to Register Trademarks Worldwide”: held as the forum for dissenminationg knowledge and understanding in connection with the Madrid Protocol and for brainstorming on this matter amongst personnel in the intellectual property sphere.
-Success in opposition procedure to the Registration “Rusi Datton” (Thai style Yoga) with Japan Patent Office.
Training courses for national and foreign participants
Traning course for Examiners, Registra and Administer Leader.
