I. GENERAL OVERVIEW OF RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN PATENT INFORMATION ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT BY THE OFFICE


In Georgia, relations concerning the protection of inventions are regulated by the Law of Georgia on Patents. In recent years, fundamental legislative reforms have been implemented to improve Georgia’s patent system.

Since 2024, the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia (Sakpatenti) has been receiving European applications for which validation in Georgia has been requested.

II. SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES RELATED TO PATENT INFORMATION CARRIED OUT BY THE OFFICE

At the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – Sakpatenti, an application for a utility model or invention may be filed either in material (paper) form or electronically.

III. SOURCES OF PATENT INFORMATION PROVIDED BY THE OFFICE

The National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – Sakpatenti publishes information on patent applications on its official website at the following address:

IV. ICT SUPPORT TO SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES RELATED TO PATENT INFORMATION CARRIED OUT BY THE OFFICE

At the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – Sakpatenti, an electronic case management system is in place for receiving and processing applications.

The implemented and planned technological upgrades enable the enhancement of user experience, the development of a flexible and automated system, compliance of intellectual property services with international standards, and the strengthening of data security.

V. PROMOTION ACTIVITIES AIMED TO SUPPORT USERS IN ACCESS AND EFFICIENT USE OF PATENT INFORMATION

At the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – Sakpatenti, the Service Development and Citizen Services Division, a structural unit within the institution, provides daily consultations to individuals interested in patent-related matters. Interested persons can obtain information on inventions and utility models both online and in person at the office.

This service is also important for participants in various grant programs. For example, it is actively used by applicants participating in competitions organized by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia and the Millennium Fund.


VI. INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION ACTIVITIES IN THE FIELD OF PATENT INFORMATION

Sakpatenti, on the one hand, has access to international commercial and free patent databases, and on the other hand, actively transmits patent information itself. The data is supplied to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the European Patent Organisation (EPO).
