In 2005 a number of 984 patent applications were filed under the Patent Law no. 64 of 1991. Of the sum of 984 filed patent applications, 916 patent applications were filed by Romanian applicants, the difference of 68 patent applications being filed by foreign applicants (30 applications filed by national route and 38 applications filed by PCT route).
In 2005, Romania was designated in 111,228 european patent applications( 86.4 % from the total).
