Annual Technical Report 2002 on Industrial Design Information Activities submitted by The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (SCIT/ATR/ID/2002/MK)
Where URLs are requested below, it is preferred that either URLs which are likely to remain stable over time (three years or more) are provided, or home (main) page URLs are provided with a short explanation of how to access the corresponding information.
The expression "industrial designs" covers industrial designs and models. Offices which issue design patents should report their design patent information activities in this series of Annual Technical Reports.
I. Evolution of registration activities
In the course of the 2002, 712 applications for industrial designs were filed to the Industrial Property Protection Office. The total number of industrial design applications filed in 2002, compared to the previous year was increased by 3,8%. Of the total number of foreign applications for industrial designs in 2002, Switzerland holds the utmost part of 287 applications and the participation of 42,0%, followed by Germany with 189 applications or 29,0%, then France with 96 applications or 14,1%, Italy with 48 applications or 7,0%, Holland with 16 applications or 2,3%, while the rest of the countries participate with 38 applications or 5,6%.
In 2002, a total number of 705 industrial design applications were registered, out of which 34 were domestic and 671 were foreign. The total number of the registered industrial designs in the said year was increased by 6,5%, which is a result of the increased number of internationally registered industrial designs. The most of domestic registered industrial designs are of class 25, which refers to construction and construction materials, and for the foreign, the highest position belongs to the industrial designs of class 10 (214 applications or 31,9%) which refers to clocks and watches and other measuring instruments, checking and signalling instruments.
II. Matters concerning the generation, reproduction, and distribution of industrial design documents and of secondary sources of industrial design information, i.e., official gazettes
...
Industrial designs are classified according to the International Classification for Industrial Designs (Locarno Classification, seventh edition).
WIPO Standard ST 80 is used for bibliographic data coding
IV. Search file establishment and upkeep
Industrial design files are kept in paper form in the library, and they are updated continuously.
There is industrial design data of applied and registered industrial designs, but in the lack of software, the research is done manually.
V. Activities in the field of computerized search systems for industrial designs
In the field of computerization several activities were taken during the 2002:
- In-house systems:
At the moment there is no global in-house system, but in cooperation with the WIPO, WIPO TMS software is planned to be implemented by the end of 2003.
- Hardware:
- 100 Mbit/per seat switched Ethernet network
- Xylan switches (48 ports)
- Motorola vanguard router
- 26 Celeron 430 MHz (or higher), 128 MB RAM, 4,3 (or higher) GB HDD PCs and 17” monitors
- 1 application sever with dual PII 400 MHz, 320 MB RAM, and 9GB SCSCI HDD
- Pairgain modem 64 Kbit-2Mbit
- Windows NT 4 as a platform deployed on more than 80% of the computers and there are also 6 Win 2000 Professional systems
- Windows 95/98 where hardware requirements for Windows NT are not met
- Windows NT server
VI. Administration of industrial design services available to the public (relating to facilities, e.g., for lodging applications, registering designs, assisting clients with search procedures, obtaining official publications and registry extracts
The Office library has industrial design data from the bulletins for international registration of industrial design through Hague Agreement concerning the International Deposit of Industrial Designs, which are supplied by WIPO, as well as industrial design data supplied by exchange of official gazettes with Slovenia, Poland, FR Yugoslavia, Croatia, Moldavia, etc., which are available to all interested persons.
The Office can not provide computerized searches in the industrial database, because of having no software for this matter.
VII. Matters concerning mutual exchange of industrial design documentation and information
...
