I. GENERAL OVERVIEW OF RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN PATENT INFORMATION ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT BY THE OFFICE
Information on the following topics is desired:
In 2023, 112 applications were submitted to the Intellectual Property Office: 22 patent applications (19.64% of the total number of applications) and 90 short-term patent applications (80.36% of the total number of applications), of which 11 from national applicants, and 11 from foreign applicants, including 1 with applications transferred to the national stage through the PCT system. 84 of the applications for short-term patents were received from national applicants, and 6 from foreign applicants, including 1 application transferred to the national stage through the PCT system.
During the reporting period, 9 applications for obtaining a patent were published in the prescribed manner (in 2022 were 5 applications). 2023 during the period, 7 applications (in 2022 were 4 applications) for the substantive examination were submitted to the Office. In 2023, the Office received 11 Eurasian patent applications and delivered it to the Eurasian Patent Office within the specified period.
During the reporting period, the paperwork was completed with 119 applications, with 11 applications decisions were made on granting an invention patent, with 80 applications decisions were made on granting a short-term invention patent, with 26 applications decisions were made on considering the application withdrawn, with 2 applications decisions were made on refusal to grant a short-term patent for an invention. In addition, with 7 applications, decisions were made on the publication of the application for obtaining a patent.
In 2023, 5 patents and 78 short-term patents were granted, of which 2 patents and 2 short-term patents were granted to foreign applicants. According to the data of 2023, 16 out of 3453 patents issued in the Republic of Armenia are active, and 208 out of 859 short-term patents are active.

The office translates the titles and abstracts into English and Russian and reviews the titles and abstracts provided by the applicant (in Armenian) and, if necessary, amends them accordingly to WIPO standard ST.12 or in order to ensure that the abstract contains the necessary information to be a useful search tool. The claims and titles are published in the Official Bulletin “Industrial Property” and the granted protection titles are provided in 2 languages (Armenian and Russian).

1.Classification is allotting one or more classification symbols (e.g., IPC symbols) to a patent application, either before or during search and examination, which symbols are then published with the patent application.
2. Preclassification is allotting an initial broad classification symbol (e.g., IPC class or subclass, or administrative unit) to a patent application, using human or automated means for internal administrative purposes (e.g., routing an application to the appropriate examiner). Usually preclassification is applied by the administration of an office.
3. Reclassification is the reconsideration and usually the replacement of one or more previously allotted classification symbols to a patent document, following a revision and the entry into force of a new version of the Classification system (e.g., the IPC). The new symbols are available on patent databases.
