The term "patent" covers utility models and Supplementary Protection Certificates (SPCs). Offices which issue design patents should report their design patent information activities in their Annual Technical Reports on Industrial Design Information Activities.

II. Matters concerning the generation, reproduction, distribution and use of primary and secondary sources of patent information
We amended the format of patent gazettes by adding the codes of bibliographic data.
The Egyptian patent abstract gazette is published every month and it is sent to universities, industrial companies and research institutes.
III. Matters concerning abstracting, classifying, reclassifying and indexing of technical information contained in patent documents
We completed the database numerical collection of EG patents till number 22280 with the following bibliographic data:
- Patent number
- Application number / year
- Filing date
- Priority number / year
- Country of priority
- Title
IPC boxed collections: the full text of patent documents from different countries (EG, US and others) is continuously added to our library. Please see attached file.
Library Activities
1. Patents
We transferred granted patents to microfiche
from No.21623 to No.22280
Total = 657 patents
2. Patent Applications
1-Filed applications
We transferred patent applications from paper format to microfilm for the year 2002.
Total = 1415 applications
2 - Applications on dutry
We transferred the patent applications from 2001 up to December 2002 from paper fromat to microfilm.
Total = 1415
Reclassification
We reclassified old patents from local classification to the new IPC edition from patent No.1 to 22398.
Under classification = 3883 patents
We search through:
- Catchword by data computer (IPC)
- Data computer / CD-ROMs and DVD system and through the Internet

V. Activities in the field of computerized and other mechanized search systems
- We installed 17 new computers on our network. Now we have 107 work stations.
- We have a new Web based database which is running very well.
- We developed and installed a new archiving system by Sakhr company; it is working and is connected with our new database.
- We have a website the address of which is http://www.egypo-gov.eg.
VI. Administration of the industrial property office library and services available to the public (relating to facilities, e.g., for lodging applications, for assisting clients on searching procedures, for obtaining official publications and registry extracts)
We made 210 state-of-the-art searches for users as described in the attached file.
VII. Matters concerning mutual exchange of patent documentation and information
Documentation and information:
- We exchange our Egyptian patent gazettes and abstract gazettes with foreign patent offices.
- We exchange our patent documents in paper format and receive patent documents on microfilm, microfiche and CD-ROM.
N.B. We prepare to exchange our patent documents on microfiche.

IX. Other relevant matters
1. | Classification is allotting one or more classification symbols (e.g., IPC symbols) to a patent application, either before or during search and examination, which symbols are then published with the patent application. |
2. | Preclassification is allotting an initial broad classification symbol (e.g., IPC class or subclass, or administrative unit) to a patent application, using human or automated means for internal administrative purposes (e.g., routing an application to the appropriate examiner). Usually preclassification is applied by the administration of an office. |
3. | Reclassification is the reconsideration and usually the replacement of one or more previously allotted classification symbols to a patent document, following a revision and the entry into force of a new version of the Classification system (e.g., the IPC). The new symbols are available on patent databases. |
