Classification and reclassification activities; Classification system used, e.g., International Classification for Industrial Designs (Locarno Classification), other classification (please indicate whether industrial designs are classified by your Office and, if so, which classification is used)
The Ukrainian translation of the 9th edition of the International Classification for Industrial Designs (Locarno Classification) was used for classifying industrial designs.
Within the “Industrial Designs” AS, software system for checking the classification symbols is in operation. It includes directories with the schemes of Locarno Classification and special software for checking classification symbols.
To satisfy information needs of the wide range of users, the IRS “International Classification for Industrial Designs (Locarno Classification). Ninth edition” is placed at the web-portal of the State Service and the web-site of the UIPI, access to which is free of charge.
Bibliographic data and processing
The WIPO Standard ST.80 is used to encode the bibliographic data of industrial designs. After the input into technological database, the bibliographical data are processed electronically. The structure of the database ensures the safety of all bibliographic data and their search.
IV. Search file establishment and upkeep
The search file consists of the array of applications placed in the technological DB “Industrial Designs” AS and the reference and search tools to it.
Incoming documents flow (on paper carriers) is processed by the system of current scanning and recognition of text documents based on the ABBYY Recognition Server 3.0. Digitized documents of applications are accumulated in "electronic dossiers" of applications and stored in the Central electronic documents archive.
No documentation of other Offices is included in the industrial designs search file.
V. Activities in the field of computerized search systems for industrial designs
In-house systems (online/offline)
The in-house computerized search systems for industrial designs are the search systems of the “Industrial Designs” AS, the central electronic documents archive and the “Indicators” AS. All these systems are operative on-line.
The search DB of industrial designs international registrations was created and is used in the course of the examination of applications. Data updating is carried out from the WIPO IB server in automatic mode.

VI. Administration of industrial design information products and services available to the public (relating to facilities, e.g., for lodging applications, registering designs, assisting clients with search procedures, obtaining official publications and registry extracts)
Collection management, preservation
In order to satisfy public needs for patent information in Ukraine, the Public Patent Documentation Collection (PPDC) functions within the structure of the UIPI branch “Ukrainian Centre of Innovatics and Patent Information Services” (Branch). The PPDC is the most comprehensive patent library in Ukraine available to the public (intellectual property office library).
During 2012 the PPDC was updated by a national and foreign patent documentation, first of all on optical discs. As on 29.12.2012, the PPDC numbered over 20.5 thousand copies of official bulletins on paper and optical carriers that have sufficiently deep retrospective.
In the PPDC the users had access to information about industrial designs published in the Official Bulletin “Promyslova Vlasnist” (on paper carrier and DVD) and the Official Bulletins of 47 foreign offices and WIPO.
Information about the content of the PPDC and its quarterly updates was published in the “Information Resources” section of the web-portal of the State Service (http://www.sips.gov.ua) and the web-sites of the UIPI (http://www.uipv.org) and the Branch (http://www.ip-centr.kiev.ua).
The PPDC is located in the premises of the Branch in three specially adapted and equipped offices (two stores with a total area of 81 sq. m. and a reading room of 40 sq. m. in area).
The fire safety (fire alarm, alert, fire fighting) was assured; checking of the fire and protection alarm, alarm systems in emergency situations is carried out every year; proper ventilation and air conditioning is ensured.
Proper storage of the PPDC documents meeting specified requirements and guaranteeing their safety was ensured.
In particular, visual control of an access of unauthorized persons to the PPDC premises was carried out constantly, made their access to the documents repositories impossible, and the documents were provided to the users solely in the reading room. Modern technologies for ensuring protection of library collections from theft and damage (video surveillance) were also used.
The PPDC is equipped with 11 up-to-date computers with appropriate licensed software, as well as scanners, printers and xerographic copying machines. In 2012, replacement of 3 computers with licensed software was carried out.
To enable users to make online access to the electronic patent-information resources, such as a Digital Patent Library, the Internet network based on Wi-Fi technology was provided in addition to the traditional Internet access for users’ convenience.
Information services available to the public (including computerized services and search files contained in libraries remote from your Office and industrial design information posted by your Office on the World Wide Web)
During the reporting year, in order to complete the patent collections of certain libraries and information centers with national patent documentation, the Official Bulletin “Promyslova Vlasnist” (on paper carrier and DVD) was sent free of charge to the bodies of national system of scientific and technical information and some other organizations of Ukraine.
The List of DBs and IRSs that provide free access of general public via the Internet to the specified information on industrial designs, as well as to the “Locarno Classification. Ninth Edition” is given in Section II and V.
All necessary consultations and services, in particular concerning the preparation of materials for filing of applications for industrial designs (prepared 5 sets of documents) were provided on the basis of the PPDC as on free of charge basis, as well as on a paid basis.
