I. GENERAL OVERVIEW OF RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN TRADEMARK INFORMATION ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT BY THE OFFICE
Information on the following topics is desired:
In 2023, the number of trademark applications submitted to the Intellectual Property Office has increased. 3282 applications were submitted for registration through the national procedure, which is about 5% more than the previous year (3143 in 2022). 2685 of the applications were submitted by national applicants. A preliminary examination was carried out on 3268 trademark applications, 2377 trademarks were registered, 1916 of which were in the name of national applicants. In comparison to the previous year, the number of registered trademarks has increased by 22% (1898 in 2022), and the number of decisions to reject trademark registration has decreased by 7.6% (300 rejections instead of 324 of the previous year), 83 applications were considered recalled. In 2023, 2377 trademark certificates were prepared and handed over to the right holders. The Republic of Armenia received 2943 notifications on international trademark registration (2773 notifications in 2022) under the international procedure (Madrid system). With international notices, 2036 decisions were made on providing legal protection to the trademark, 907 decisions on final rejection. 32 applications for international registration were submitted from the Republic of Armenia.
In 2023, the leading trademarks submitted for registration of services were of the 35th class (advertising, business management, organization, administration, office services) of the International Classification of Goods and Services (ICGS) are 881 applications in total (755 applications in 2022), in the second place are the trademarks submitted for registration of goods of the 33rd class of the ICGS (alcoholic beverages (except beer)), 449 applications in total (479 applications in 2022) and the third place is taken by the registration of goods of the 43rd class of the ICGS (food and beverage provision services; provision of temporary accommodation), which has 423 applications (395 applications in 2022) and in the fourth place are those submitted for registration for the services of the 41st class of the ICGS (education: provision of educational process: entertainment: organization of sports and cultural events), the number of which is 417 applications (381 applications in 2022).
In the reporting period, the number of submitted online applications increased by 9.3% (1580 applications) compared to the previous year (1440 applications in 2022).
