Where URLs are requested below, it is preferred that either URLs which are likely to remain stable over time (three years or more) are provided, or home (main) page URLs are provided with a short explanation of how to access the corresponding information.
The expression "industrial designs" covers industrial designs and models. Offices which issue design patents should report their design patent information activities in this series of Annual Technical Reports.
I. Evolution of registration activities
In 2005, Industrial Design Department received 50 industrial design applications, out of which 25 applications were from national applicants and 25 from foreign applicants.
The thirty-four (34) industrial designs were granted in 2005.
The numbers of filed industrial design applications for period between 1993 and 2005 are shown in the following table:
The most of domestic industrial design applications are of class 09 (16 applications or 64%), which refers to packages and containers for the transport or handling of goods, and for the foreign, the highest position belongs to the industrial design applications of class 14 (5 applications or 20%) which refers to recording, communication or information retrieval equipment.
The numbers of granted industrial design for period between 1994 and 2005 are shown in the following table:
The most of domestic granted industrial designs are of class 23 (7 industrial designs or 35%), which refers to fluid distribution equipment, sanitary, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning equipment, the highest position belongs to the industrial designs of class 09 and 14 (8 industrial designs or 57%) which refers to packages and containers for the transport or handling of goods and recording, communication or information retrieval equipment.

II. Matters concerning the generation, reproduction, and distribution of industrial design documents and of secondary sources of industrial design information, i.e., official gazettes
The Institute for Standards, Metrology and Intellectual Property of Bosnia and Herzegovina issues official Gazette Glasnik. The Gazette is issued four times a year, every three months. This official Gazette contains data concerning recognised industrial designs and information regarding other activities of the Office, in the country and abroad. There are very often commentaries of actual activities in protection of the industrial property rights. In these Gazettes there is basic data for industrial designs.
III. Matters concerning classifying, reclassifying and indexing of industrial design information according to the classification systems applied
All industrial design documentation is classified according to the International Classification for Industrial Designs (Locarno Classification, 8-th edition).
WIPO Standard ST 80 is used for bibliographic data coding.
IV. Search file establishment and upkeep
Main kind of files is the collection of all national industrial designs in paper form that is updated continuously, and the collection of International Design Bulletins.
There is industrial design data of applied and registered industrial designs, but in the lack of software, the research is done manually.
V. Activities in the field of computerized search systems for industrial designs
There is an industrial design expert, B.Sc. Mechanical Engineering (speaks English very good and German well). He has his own PC station and he is connected into a LAN. Everyday work is based on the following software: Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office. The database of filed industrial design applications and the granted industrial designs are developed within Microsoft Access.
Professional systems
- Windows 95/98 where hardware requirements for Windows NT are not met
- Windows NT server
VI. Administration of industrial design services available to the public (relating to facilities, e.g., for lodging applications, registering designs, assisting clients with search procedures, obtaining official publications and registry extracts)
The Institute for Intellectual Property of Bosnia and Herzegovina offers free information services concerning legal questions, details of registration procedures, property rights or due fees, which can be submitted verbally (personally or by telephone).
The Information Center of the Institute has industrial design data from the bulletins for international registration of industrial design through Hague Agreement concerning the International Deposit of Industrial Designs, which are supplied by WIPO as well as Official Gazettes from many countries available to the public free of charge. In addition, all information regarding industrial design documentation, at present not available in the Information Center, can be obtained via the Institute.
Technical expert of the Institute can be consulted for legal and technical questions in connection with an intellectual property right, a pending application or for an intended application. The legal information service is available personally or by telephone free of charge on all working days.
The homepage of the Institute contains general information as well as detailed references for applicants concerning forms for application and the current fees for all industrial property rights, namely patent, trademark, industrial design.
The address of the Institute is:
