Annual Technical Report 2005 on Trademark Information Activities submitted by Armenia (SCIT/ATR/TM/2005/AM)

I. Evolution of registration activities
In 2005 1449 applications for registration under national procedure were filed with the Intellectual Property Agency (1855 applications for 2004), 1271 applications were registered (1095 for 2004) and 89 applications were refused.
2359 notifications were received under Madrid Agreement for international registration of trademarks with indication of Armenia (2252 notifications for 2004).
Decision was made for preliminary refusal of 384 international registrations (451 for 2004) and final refusal on 224 (214 for 2004) as well as 23 decisions on assignment refusal of international registration of trademarks.
II. Matters concerning the generation, reproduction, and distribution of secondary sources of trademark information, i.e., trademark gazettes
In 2005 4 numbers of the Official Bulletins “Industrial Property” were published:
No 1 (33), No 2 (34), No 3 (35) and No 4(36) in CD-ROM format.
Data on 110 registered trademarks and service marks, data on registered trade names in 2003 as well as notifications on registration of license agreements and agreements on patent and trademark assignments (100 registrations) were published in the Bulletins.
Technical and Statistic reports on trademarks and service marks for 2004 have been prepared and presented to the World Intellectual Property Organization.
III. Matters concerning classifying, reclassifying and indexing of trademark information
Upon registration of trademarks, goods and services are classified according to the 8-th edition of the International Classification of Goods and Services (Nice Agreement), and figurative elements of trademarks are classified according to International Classification of Figurative Elements of Marks (Vienna Agreement).
The list of goods and services in the application for registration of trademarks are indicated by the applicant according to ICTS.
Electronic database is available for received applications and registered trademarks.
With the help of electronic base the search on trademarks is practically carried out by all bibliographic data.
IV. Trademark manual search file establishment and upkeep
The Agency kept on work towards update of the foundation of the Armenian Centre for Scientific and Technical Information. The information received from patent offices of foreign countries is forwarded to the Centre.
V. Activities in the field of computerized trademark search systems
In the reporting period automation and technical re-equipment of the Agency has been continued. The Agency has purchased four “Pentium 4” computers as well as accessories to the computers, among them printers. Shortcomings and omissions in the information system of the Agency revealed in the course of its exploitation have been eliminated. A series of changes and supplements have been made with the aim of coping with the tasks having been raised as a result of improvement of works carried out in the Agency. As a result new versions of the programs for databases, among them the third subversion of “trademarks” database, the second subversion of “trade names” databases, subversion of “appellation of origin of goods” database were elaborated.
The subversion of “trademark” database designed for examination and record keeping provides:
- Collection of bibliographic data in three languages (Armenian, Russian, English)
- Collection and control of fees
- Automation of record keeping
- Outlet of statistic data
- Publication of bibliographic data
- Search of information.
Windows 2000/XP and Microsoft Office have been installed and adjusted, service of operation system, installation and adjustment of computer programs, diagnostics of infected and damaged computers and programs and elimination of errors, installation of trademark and trade name databases have been carried out.
Archiving device HP surestore dat autoloader and software Veritas Back-up Exec and installation and adjustment as well as development of strategy on archiving of data on trademarks have been carried out.
VI. Administration of trademark services available to the public (relating to facilities, e.g., for lodging applications, registering trademarks, assisting clients with search procedures, obtaining official publications and registry extracts)
Patent information of the Agency is available to the wide public via Internet (http//www.armpatent.org). The page contains the following information chapters:

- Information-search system
The information is available in three languages (Armenian, Russian, English).
VII. Matters concerning mutual exchange of trademark documentation and information
The Official Bulletins containing notifications on trademarks are sent free of charge to the Armenian Research Institute of Scientific and Technical Information, Main Library of the National Academy of Sciences, the libraries of the Armenian State University, the State Engineering University of the Republic of Armenia, the Armenian Academy of Agriculture, the State Public Library and to the Book Chamber of Armenia. Official Bulletins have also been sent to the regional centers of the Republic of Armenia free of charge.
According to the preliminary arrangements on patent information exchange, 21 copies of Official Bulletin were sent to the Patent offices of foreign countries, as well as to WIPO, EPO and EAPO.
Since 2005 the Agency was given access to the ROMARIN search on trademarks from the WIPO Internet site.
